It has been proven that incorporating evidence-based practice approach where problem-solving using research when making any kind of health care decisions has been linked to overall improvements in the quality of healthcare services rendered. As stated in our text, by authors Meylynk and Fineout-Overholt, evidence-based practice, also known as EPS, is positively correlated with improved healthcare quality, improved patient outcomes, reduction of unnecessary healthcare related costs, and empowers clinicians to make the best decisions using the best EPS research when making any kind of decisions. All four of the above mentioned factors define the quadruple aim in healthcare that healthcare systems across the nation are striving to reach (Melynk & Fineout Overholt, pg. 7). While nurses work in the frontline of healthcare, they serve as a link in implementing EBP changes into clinical practice. In general, it can start with us, the nurses. “Best practice only occurs when staff continuously ask questions about treatment and care, have the resources and skills necessary to search for and appraise research evidence, implement the evidence in practice, and evaluate its effectiveness” (Crabtree et al., 2016).
The professional healthcare organization I selected for EBP review is the American Nurse Association, also known as the ANA. Although, I am not a member of the association just yet, I was able to study whether evidenced-based practice is a mission of the organization. The ANA is a full service organization for the millions of Registered Nurses nationwide. According to their website, “ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive realistic view of nursing, and lobby Congress and the regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting the nurses and the public” (American Nurses Association, 2006). Although I could not locate EBP in their mission statement, I was able to come across various links that lead me to resources that was evidence-based for different specialties and differing nurse practices. I noticed that a resource they provide to their members is from Lippincott, similar to where I am employed which is a tool that nurses utilize with procedures, etc. Under the ANA membership mission statement, I found that their goal is to “Unite with registered nurses across the nation to advance your career; gain access to webinars, resources, and journals, and support the nursing profession” (ANA, 2020).

March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world.
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.
In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g., a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national initiative).
Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.
By Day 3 of Week 1
Post a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears (e.g., the mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare organization, or in other locations on the website). Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide examples.
