What is the difference between a group “at risk” for poor health and a group considered a “vulnerable” population? Provide an example of an “at risk” or “vulnerable population” group in the United States and one in another country (or immigrants within the United States).
Explain why members of these groups cannot advocate for themselves or why advocating for these groups would be beneficial.

Groups “at risk” for ill health are not the same as vulnerable communities.
“A population at risk is defined as a group of people who share a common risk factor or risk exposure that poses a health concern” (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2014, p. 189).
For example, all persons who are overweight and hypertensive are considered to be at risk for cardiovascular disease (Stanhope &…display more content… 375).
A person with a chronic ailment like cancer or heart disease, for example, may already struggle to manage his or her condition and have a lower physical ability to cope with stress than someone who does not have such a condition.
He or she could also be at risk or have other comorbidities, each of which could have an impact on the other.
Furthermore, their marginalized or disenfranchised condition may reduce their resilience.
They may be unable to hold down a full-time employment and, as a result, earn insufficient wages and live on or near the poverty line.
As a result, “his or her capacity to acquire appropriate and/or safe housing, critical health care, and pharmaceutical treatments” is harmed (Lundy & Janes, 2009, p. 616).
As a result, vulnerability arises as a result of the combined impacts of restricted resources, resulting in a more dangerous situation (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2014b).
Vulnerability is influenced by living in a resource-limited setting in a variety of ways.
Poor people, for example, are constantly confronted with many risk factors that contribute to chronic stress, such as insecure housing, recurrent exposure to violence/crime, impediments to health care access (such as a lack of insurance, transportation, or language barriers), and other constraints.
As a result, it’s not uncommon for someone or a community to become immobilized when they’re repeatedly inundated with stressful conditions.
In other words, they lack the ability to successfully respond to even the most basic of situations.
