Describe the population health issue you choose and the elements that influence it.
Abortions have been a matter of discussion and debate in politics for many years, but they have recently become a big topic of discussion and controversy in healthcare.
Abortion laws touch a wide range of people, and there are numerous elements that influence the argument.
The consequences of abortion on birthrates, the economic cost of abortion, and changes in sexual behavior among teenagers are all factors that contribute to abortion.
A recent study was conducted to examine the elements that influence a woman’s emotional well-being following an abortion.
The study’s implications included the source of stress faced by women following abortion and the impact abortion had on religious beliefs (Annas, G. n.d.).
According to a study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry in 2011, 81 percent of people are at risk of developing a mental health illness such as anxiety, depression, alcoholism, marijuana misuse, or suicide (Laguna Treatment Center, 2019).
Women who were denied an abortion were found to be more emotionally anxious in other research (Laguna Treatment Center, 2019).
They were not prepared to have children, rape, the infant had birth problems, and the child’s parents were unable to care for the newborn, or embarrassment were the reasons for this.

President Donald Trump remarked on January 19, 2018, at the annual March for Life, a protest for anti-abortion campaigners, that his government “will always defend the very first right in the Declaration of Independence, and that is the right to life.”
As the foundation of our society, we are defending the sanctity of life and the family (whitehouse.gov, n.d.).
President Trump is a staunch opponent of abortion.
That has always been and will continue to be the case for him as long as he is president.
Obama was a staunch supporter of a woman’s right to terminate a pregnancy for any reason using legal and safe abortion techniques, as defined by Roe v. Wade.
Obama would go to any length to protect a woman’s right to an affordable and unrestricted abortion on demand, as pushed by tax-subsidized abortion clinics such as Planned Parenthood.

He thought it was a moral problem and that the government should stay out of it.
In 2008, President Barack Obama signed the Freedom of Choice Act, which codified the right to abortion by repealing all federal and state limitations on the operation (The federalist, 2019 para.9).
President Bush, more than the other two presidents, was arguably the most sensitive on the matter.
Bush backed a constitutional amendment prohibiting the surgery except in circumstances of rape, incest, or where the woman’s life was in danger.
However, he noted that because the plan was unpopular with Americans, there was no reason to pursue it.
He also stated that his Supreme Court selections will not be subjected to an anti-abortion litmus test (Abortion without the rhetoric, 2012).
He didn’t believe in killing infants on purpose, but he did feel women should have certain rights at first, before taking away funds and settling for partial abortion.

This policy forbids the United States from providing federal family planning funds to international health organizations that provide abortion services” (Freiburger, C., 2019).
Planned Parenthood is an example of this type of organization.
Sean Spicer, the President’s press secretary, made a bold statement shortly after, saying, “Mr. Trump was/is standing up for all Americans – including the unborn” (Freiburger, C., 2019).
The Obama administration has approved a regulation prohibiting states from withholding federal funds from Planned Parenthood and other abortion-related health clinics.
The safeguards had been in place for two days before Donald Trump took office.
Regardless of whether they also conduct abortions, states are legally compelled to disburse federal cash for contraception, fertility, pregnancy, sexually transmitted illnesses, and breast and cervical cancer screening under the regulation (Annas, G. n.d.).
President Bush reestablished the “Mexico City Policy,” often dubbed as the “Global Gag Rule” by critics, as soon as he took office.
This rule requires all federally funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to refrain from performing or promoting abortion services (prolifeprofiles.com, n.d.).

Trump’s key abortion-related acts during his first two years in office included: signing into law a resolution allowing states to reject federal funds from health-care providers that perform abortions;
Restoring the Mexico City Policy, which barred foreign aid and federal funding for international NGOs that performed abortions or provided related services; and submitting a proposal to change the Title X family planning program, which would make family planning clinics that refer patients for abortions and share finances or facilities with abortion providers ineligible to receive funding from the program.
Furthermore, if providing abortion counseling violated their moral or religious beliefs, healthcare providers would not be obligated to do so (Israel, M., 2018).
Obama’s presidency was dedicated to promoting abortion rather than reducing it, as he had promised.
He has accomplished this by expanding abortions through Obamacare, appointing a slew of pro-abortion judges and officials, removing medical professionals’ conscience rights, and compelling taxpayers to subsidize organizations that perform abortions in other countries (Annas, G. (n.d.).

Bush signed the “Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act” into law on November 5, 2003, prohibiting a type of late-term abortion known as “partial birth abortions” by pro-life groups and referred to in medical literature as “intact dilation and extraction.”
“Any physician who knowingly conducts a partial-birth abortion in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce and therefore kills a human fetus shall be fined under this section or imprisoned for not more than two years, or both,” according to the statute.
The Texas Parental Notification Law, which required doctors to notify a parent or guardian by phone or certified mail at least 48 hours before performing an abortion on a minor girl, was upheld by the United States Supreme Court in 2007. When he made it a priority to overturn the Mexico City Policy during his first week in office, Obama made it plain that he would favor abortion.
The Mexico City Policy was established by Republican President Ronald Reagan in 1984, and it prohibits funding for international organizations that perform or offer information about abortions.
It was reinstated by George W. Bush, but President Barack Obama revoked it again in 2009. (Bilger, 2018).
When President George W. Bush assumed office in 2001, he reintroduced President Ronald Reagan’s Mexico City Policy.
President George W. Bush also ruled in 2001 that federal monies could not be utilized for embryonic stem cell research, which necessitates the death of human embryos.
Instead, Bush advocated for adult stem cell research, which does not involve the destruction of embryos.
Bush signed the Born-Alive Newborns Protection Act in 2002, which provides legal protection to infants who survive induced abortions by giving them the same legal safeguards as kids born prematurely.
President Bush signed the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act into law in 2003, making late-term abortions illegal.

President George W. Bush is my personal choice.
His stance on abortion regulations was more empathetic and personal in nature.
He was a devout Christian, which influenced his ideas and actions on the matter, whilst the others were diametrically opposed.
President Trump does not appear to see abortion from the perspective of those who may need it, such as a rape victim.
President Barack Obama is a strong supporter of abortion and believes that women should be able to choose whether or not to have an abortion for any reason.
He appears to be unconcerned by anyone’s ethical or religious opinions on the subject.
